Composer, Conductor, Audio Engineer

​Ben David Richmond ​(b. 1991) is a composer, conductor, and audio engineer in Maine. He is the Instrumental Music Teacher at John Bapst Memorial High School, Music Director of the Maine Youth Orchestra, Wind Ensemble Director of the Bangor Symphony Youth Orchestras, and cover conductor for the Portland Symphony Orchestra. His previous conducting engagements have included the Southern Maine Symphony Orchestra, the North Shore Philharmonic, the University of Southern Maine Wind Ensemble, and the MMEA District 2 Honors Orchestra.

As a composer, Richmond has written five symphonies, four ballets, three string quartets, and scores of other works ranging from solo to large ensemble. In 2021, his work "Delirium," for violin and electronics, was choreographed by members of the New York City Ballet. In 2019 Richmond conducted the premiere of his third symphony, “Poem of Tides,” with the Southern Maine Symphony Orchestra.

As an audio engineer, Richmond has worked at the Waterville Opera House, the University of Chicago, and has gigged with multiple Grammy award winning popular and classical music acts. His sound design credits span genres in festival films, musicals, ballets, and plays.
 
Richmond earned a BM in Music Performance and a BM in Music Composition with honors notation from Indiana University – Bloomington, a certification in electronic music from the Gotland School of Music Composition (Sweden), and a MM in Music Conducting from the University of Southern Maine. He is currently serving as a member of the Maine Music Educator Association's inaugural DEIA committee and has also been nominated as the Maine All-State Orchestra Manager for the 2024 and 2025 festivals. ​
