Composer, Conductor, Audio Engineer
Ben David Richmond (b. 1991) is a conductor, composer, and audio engineer living in Maine. He is the Instrumental Music Teacher at John Bapst Memorial High School, Music Director of the Maine Youth Orchestra, Wind Ensemble Director of the Bangor Symphony Youth Orchestras, and a cover conductor for the Portland Symphony Orchestra. In 2025, he was named as a finalist for the American Prize in Conducting – Youth Orchestra Division. His previous conducting engagements have included the Southern Maine Symphony Orchestra, the North Shore Philharmonic, the University of Southern Maine Wind Ensemble, and the MMEA District 2 Honors Orchestra.
As a composer, Richmond has written scores of works ranging from solo to large ensemble, and is best known for his fusion of live instruments with electronic accompaniment. His piece "Delirium" (for violin and electronics) received its South American debut in 2024, performed by Mariano Ceballos with live-generated A.I. images at the Teatro Cuidad de las Artes in Córdoba, Argentina, and in 2021 was choreographed by members of the New York City Ballet for an original video. The premiere of his piece, "Remember Where" (for voice and pitched percussion) aired on NYC Cable Access TV on the show "Composers Voice" in 2024. His piece for flute and electronics, "Three Dance Episodes," was recorded in 2025 and is forthcoming later this year.
Richmond earned a BM in Music Performance and a BM in Music Composition from Indiana University – Bloomington, a certification in electronic music from the Gotland School of Music Composition (Sweden), and a MM in Music Conducting from the University of Southern Maine. He has served on the Maine Music Educator Association's inaugural DEIA committee and was the Maine All-State Orchestra Manager for the 2024 and 2025 festivals.
